Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is an international fellowship of people who have or have had a drinking problem. It is a mutual aid organization, meaning its members support each other through sharing their experiences, strength, and hope to overcome alcoholism. AA is non-professional, self-supporting, and apolitical. Its primary purpose is to help alcoholics achieve and maintain sobriety through a program of recovery that involves attending meetings, working the Twelve Steps, and engaging in service to others.

Narcotics Anonymous (NA) is a global, community-based organization designed for individuals recovering from drug addiction. Like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), NA is a mutual aid fellowship where members support each other in maintaining their sobriety and recovering from addiction. NA uses a program adapted from AA’s Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, focusing on spiritual principles and personal growth to help individuals achieve and maintain abstinence from drugs. Meetings are held regularly where members share their experiences, offer support, and work together to overcome addiction. NA is non- professional, self-supporting, and open to anyone seeking help with drug addiction

SMART Recovery (Self-Management and Recovery Training) is a global, non- profit organization that provides support and tools for individuals seeking to overcome addictive behaviors. Unlike traditional 12-step programs, SMART Recovery is based on cognitive-behavioral techniques and principles of self-empowerment. SMART Recovery offers in-person and online meetings, as well as online resources such as forums, chat rooms, and self-help materials. It emphasizes evidence- based strategies and encourages individuals to take an active role in their recovery process.

Refuge Recovery www.refugerecovery.org

Refuge Recovery is a non-profit organization and a Buddhist-inspired approach to recovery from addiction. Founded by Noah Levine, it draws upon Buddhist principles and practices, such as mindfulness, compassion, and ethical living, to help individuals overcome addiction and find lasting freedom from suffering. Refuge Recovery offers meetings, peer support, and educational resources to individuals seeking recovery from addiction. It is inclusive and open to people from all backgrounds and beliefs, emphasizing personal exploration and spiritual growth as integral parts of the recovery journey
