Aaron is a motivated entrepreneur & the founder of Purple Recovery. Aaron owns and operates a successful local business in the OBX. Originally from New Jersey, he spent his college summers in the Outer Banks from 2008-2010, and came back full-time in 2020. Aaron’s experience with Substance Use Disorder and recovery comes from his own story. He started participating in his own recovery in 2018, but wasn’t able to stick with it until January of 2023. After becoming active in the Outer Banks recovery community, he began to witness what he calls “a broken system”. “We send people with Substance Use Disorder (SUD) to treatment, help them get clean, give them 30-90 days’ worth of tools, and then send them back to their old stomping grounds with no follow up. This is the equivalent of starting to treat someone who was a victim of domestic abuse, and 3 months later, sending them back to their abuser. We expect to give people 90 days’ worth of tools to overcome 10-15 years’ worth of bad habits and trauma. There is a reason why treatment centers and outpatient programs are a revolving door with extremely low success rates. There is simply no aid or assistance for people once they leave. Getting clean is relatively simple. Staying clean IS the battle.” Aaron started Purple Recovery to help those with SUD who are in vulnerable financial situations. His main goal is to establish what he and many others feel is the “missing piece” in the fight against addiction.
